Vancouver doesn’t get much snow, but it does get long, dark December evenings, and the region makes the most of them. Between mid-November and early January there are light displays in botanical gardens, on mountaintops, in a rainforest canyon, on a film backlot and along lakeshores out in the Fraser Valley. Some cost nothing. Others need a timed ticket booked weeks ahead.
This page lists every Christmas light display we’re following in Metro Vancouver and the Lower Mainland for 2026, grouped so you can pick by budget and by area. Each name links to our full guide with hours, prices, parking and FAQs. For everything else on this season (markets, parades, shows and Santa), start with the Vancouver Christmas Guide 2026.

The Big Ticketed Light Shows
These are the ones people plan around. Most use timed entry, and the popular weekend slots before Christmas go first, so book early if your dates are fixed.
VanDusen Festival of Lights (Vancouver)
The city’s best-known light show fills 15 acres of VanDusen Botanical Garden with more than a million lights, and the Dancing Lights show starts every 20 minutes. The 2026 festival is on from November 27 to January 3, and tickets are sold online only, for a set entry time. Tickets go on sale November 4. The #17 Oak bus stops close to the garden gate, which saves a lot of circling for parking on busy nights. Full details: VanDusen Festival of Lights 2026.
Canyon Lights at Capilano Suspension Bridge Park (North Vancouver)
Walking a lit suspension bridge 70 metres above a dark canyon is hard to beat. Canyon Lights runs November 20 to January 10, from 11:00 AM to 9:00 PM daily, closed December 25. New this season is WILDLIGHT, a 3D wildlife projection deep in the rainforest. Arrive late afternoon and you’ll see the park in daylight and lit up on one ticket. See Canyon Lights 2026.
The Peak of Christmas on Grouse Mountain (North Vancouver)
Grouse turns its summit into a small North Pole from November 20 to December 24: a lit walk around Blue Grouse Lake, a mountaintop skating pond, Santa’s workshop and reindeer. It’s the most “snowy Christmas” experience you’ll find near the city, weather permitting. See The Peak of Christmas at Grouse Mountain.
Noël Surrey with the Magic of Bright Nights (Cloverdale)
If you grew up riding the Bright Nights train in Stanley Park, this is where those lights went. The Burn Fund’s Bright Nights display is now part of Noël Surrey at the Cloverdale Fairgrounds, along with a Christmas market, rides and a holiday village. It runs November 27 to December 29, 3:00 to 9:30 PM. Kids 6 and under are free, and parking is included. See Noël Surrey 2026 and what happened to the Bright Nights Train.
Glow Gardens Langley
Glow has large indoor sections, which matters in a Vancouver December. Its 10th season, Christmas Treasures, opens November 19 and runs to January 2, with more than a million lights, an underwater storyline, artisan markets and live entertainment. See Glow Langley Christmas Treasures 2026.
Merry & Bright at Martini Town (Langley)
A working film backlot, decorated like a snowy small town and a New York street, with falling snow and a heated market tent. It’s open November 20 to December 31 by advance timed ticket only. See Merry & Bright at Martini Town.
Astra Lumina (Stanley Park)
Astra Lumina is a night walk of light and sound installations that opened in Stanley Park on October 22. It isn’t a Christmas show as such, but it pairs well with a December evening downtown. See Astra Lumina Vancouver.
Free Christmas Lights in Metro Vancouver
You don’t have to spend anything to see good lights here. These cost nothing to walk through:
- Lights at Lafarge, Coquitlam: the City of Coquitlam calls it Metro Vancouver’s largest free outdoor winter lights display. Opening night is Friday, November 27, 5:00 to 8:00 PM, and it’s an easy walk from Lafarge Lake–Douglas SkyTrain station.
- Festive Village at Burnaby Village Museum: free gate admission from November 25 to January 3, with carollers, Father Christmas and a heritage village lit for the season. The Bright in Burnaby tree lighting opens it properly on November 28.
- Dundarave Festival of Lights, West Vancouver: more than 150 decorated trees along the waterfront, November 28 to early January.
- Bear Creek Lights, Surrey: a one-kilometre lit loop through the park gardens, November 6 to 20. It’s free, but you need a ticket.
- Lumière, downtown Vancouver: free light art in plazas and laneways, November 12 to 14, 5:00 to 9:30 PM.
- Lights of Hope, Burrard Street: the final celebration night is Thursday, November 12, before St. Paul’s Hospital moves.
- Winter in the Village, Steveston: lights, murals and the free Winter Tram, November 19 to December 31.
- Lights by the Lake, Harrison Hot Springs: a lakeside promenade lit nightly from November 21 to January 10, with a free skating rink. Worth pairing with a soak.
Also free, but still waiting on 2026 dates: Granville Island holiday lights and Bright Walk in White Rock. For more no-cost outings, our tree lighting calendar lists free ceremonies across the region.
Drive-Through and Fraser Valley Light Displays
Some displays are better from the car, or worth the drive east.
- Holiday Lights in Williams Park, Langley: a drive-through that sold out every session in 2025. The Township hasn’t posted 2026 dates or registration yet.
- Zoo Lights at the Greater Vancouver Zoo, Aldergrove: lantern-style zones after dark. 2026 dates not announced.
- Christmas at Greendale Acres, Chilliwack: farm lights and a train ride. 2026 dates not announced.
- Christmas at District 1881, Chilliwack: a 40-foot tree and holiday displays downtown.
- Cultus Lake Christmas: one free evening of lights, Santa and fireworks on Saturday, November 21.
Displays Not Running This Year
- Christmas at Canada Place is not taking place in 2026 because of construction on the west promenade. The Vancouver Christmas Market next door is still on.
- The Bright Nights Train in Stanley Park is not running. Bright Nights is at Noël Surrey instead.
- Holiday Splash at the Vancouver Aquarium hasn’t confirmed a 2026 season yet.
Tips for Seeing Christmas Lights in Vancouver
- Go on a weeknight. Saturdays in December are the busiest nights everywhere. Monday to Thursday is noticeably calmer at VanDusen, Capilano and Grouse.
- Book timed tickets early. The last two weekends before Christmas sell out first at the ticketed shows.
- Plan for rain. Most outdoor displays run rain or shine. Waterproof boots matter more than a heavy coat. Glow Langley, with its indoor areas, is the safest bet on a stormy night.
- Take transit where you can. Lafarge is beside SkyTrain, VanDusen is on the #17 bus, and downtown events like Lumière are walkable from Waterfront and Vancouver City Centre stations.
- Pair lights with something else. Canyon Lights and Grouse are both in North Vancouver, and the Shipyards Christmas Market is a short drive away. Festive Village and an evening at the Vancouver Christmas Market make a good city pairing.
