For three nights every November, downtown Vancouver turns into an outdoor gallery of light. Projections ripple across building walls, installations glow in public plazas, and performers appear among the crowds, all free, with no tickets, spread across downtown, the West End and Gastown. Lumière is a great way to kick off the season before the Christmas lights proper go up.
Lumière 2026 runs Thursday, November 12 to Saturday, November 14, from 5:00 to 9:30 PM. Here are the five sites, what to expect and a suggested walking route.

A Walking Route
The sites are close enough to walk between in an evening. A simple loop: start at the Vancouver Art Gallery North Plaza and 800 Robson Plaza, walk west along Robson and down Davie to Jim Deva Plaza and 1800 Davie Plaza by English Bay, then take a bus or a longer walk east to Blood Alley Square in Gastown to finish with dinner. Allow two to three hours if you want to linger.
What to Expect
The festival promises small and large illuminated artworks and light-based projections, with live performances. The 2026 artists haven’t been announced. For a sense of the format, last year’s festival (November 13 to 16, 2025, themed “Unity”) included Iridescence, a generative projection by Finland’s Niko Tiainen near the Art Gallery; Apogee, a projection and sound piece by Australia’s Chalk River Labs; DecaDance, a mirrored pavilion at Jim Deva Plaza; Memories of Colour, an illuminated coral reef at 1800 Davie Plaza; and The Human Network, an interactive piece in Blood Alley Square. None of these are confirmed for 2026.
Same Week, More Lights
On Thursday, November 12, St. Paul’s Foundation holds its final Lights of Hope celebration on Burrard Street, from 6:00 to 8:00 PM, a short walk from the Art Gallery. The Circle Craft Holiday Market is also on at the Convention Centre from November 11 to 15. A few days later, the Vancouver Christmas Market opens on November 16.
For every light display this season, see Christmas lights in Vancouver. On December 21, the Winter Solstice Lantern Festival is another community night of light, in Yaletown and on Granville Island.
Accessibility and Getting There
The sites are outdoor plazas, and the festival calls itself free and accessible but doesn’t list specific features. Vancouver City Centre and Granville stations are close to the downtown sites, and many buses run along Davie and Robson. Questions go to the festival at (604) 696-0144.

Tips
- Go after 6:00 PM when it’s fully dark.
- Pick a weeknight if you don’t like crowds. Saturday is busiest.
- Wear a rain jacket. It’s outdoors in November.
