Steveston Festival of Trees 2024: A Holiday Tradition at the Gulf of Georgia Cannery
The Steveston Festival of Trees returns for the holiday season, transforming the historic Gulf of Georgia Cannery into a winter wonderland from November 30, 2024, to January 5, 2025. This annual event brings together the community to celebrate the festive season with beautifully decorated trees, fun activities, and a variety of performances that highlight the diverse stories and traditions of Steveston’s communities.
Event Highlights
- Festival of Trees: Local merchants and community groups decorate Christmas trees, competing for the community’s vote for Favourite Tree. Visitors can vote on-site or on the Cannery’s Facebook page (@GulfofGeorgiaCannery) from November 30 to December 31. Winners will be announced in early January. This year’s event showcases trees decorated to reflect the holiday stories, traditions, and celebrations shared by community partners.
- Santa at the Cannery: On Sunday, December 8, enjoy free admission as Santa and Mrs. Claus arrive to celebrate the holiday season. From 2-4 PM, families can take photos with Santa in the Cannery’s Boiler House Theatre. Tickets for photos are available for pickup starting at 10:30 AM on a first-come, first-serve basis. Please note that families must bring their own cameras to capture the moment, as no professional photography services will be available.
- Fish Tales Recipe Exchange & Ornament Crafting: From November 30 to January 5, share your holiday recipes and traditions at the Cannery’s “What’s Cooking?” Recipe Exchange wall, and take home new recipes to try with your family. Children can also create their own Fish Tales-themed ornaments at the Cannery Kids Corner. Available daily during site opening hours (10 AM – 5 PM).
