For years, the Gulf of Georgia Cannery in Steveston filled its old canning floor with Christmas trees each December, decorated by local businesses and community groups, and invited visitors to vote for their favourite. In 2025 the Steveston Festival of Trees ran from November 29 to January 4 with the theme “Holiday Touchstones.”
For 2026, the Cannery hasn’t listed a Festival of Trees. What it has listed is a new holiday setup of festive photo vignettes, plus its annual Santa visit. Here’s what’s on, and what the Festival of Trees used to include.
Christmas at the Cannery 2026
- Festive Family Photo Vignettes: November 21 to December 31, 2026, according to the Cannery’s events page.
- Santa at the Cannery: Sunday, November 29, 2026, with free admission that day and photos with Santa and Mrs. Claus from 2:00 to 4:00 PM.
- Movie matinees in the Boiler House Theatre run through December 21.
The Cannery is at 12138 Fourth Avenue in Steveston Village, and it’s one of the holiday selfie mural spots for Winter in the Village.
The Festival of Trees in 2025
- Dates: November 29, 2025 to January 4, 2026, 10:00 AM to 5:00 PM.
- What it was: dozens of trees decorated by local businesses, organizations and community members, presented with Tourism Richmond.
- Theme: “Holiday Touchstones,” about the objects and decorations tied to holiday memories.
- Voting: visitors voted for a favourite tree in person or on Facebook.
- Admission: regular Cannery admission, free on select days.
