Vancouver’s theatres go all in at Christmas. This year you can choose between a very local panto in East Van, a full-scale Broadway musical about Buddy the Elf, an a cappella holiday cabaret on Granville Island and the city’s classic Nutcracker. Most run for weeks, but the best weekend seats go early.

Elf: The Musical (Arts Club)
The Arts Club’s big holiday show is the musical version of the film: Buddy, a human raised by elves at the North Pole, heads to New York City to find his dad. Book by Thomas Meehan and Bob Martin, music by Matthew Sklar and lyrics by Chad Beguelin.
- Dates: November 12 to December 27, 2026.

The Gingerbread Men: And Yet Another Holiday Cabaret
A returning Arts Club favourite: a vocal group singing doo-wop, jazz, Broadway, holiday standards and a cappella. Four nights only, at the Lindsay Family Stage on Granville Island (1585 Johnston Street): Monday, December 7, Monday, December 14 and Monday, December 21 at 7:00 PM, and Sunday, December 20 at 7:30 PM. Pair it with a walk through the Granville Island holiday lights.
Goh Ballet’s The Nutcracker
Vancouver’s classic Christmas ballet, with more than 200 dancers, actors and gymnasts and Tchaikovsky’s score played live by members of the Vancouver Opera Orchestra. December 17 to 20 at the Queen Elizabeth Theatre. It runs about two hours with an intermission. Full guide: The Nutcracker 2026.
