The old Stanley Park miniature railway site, where the Bright Nights train used to run, has a new tenant this winter. Astra Lumina is a night walk by Montreal’s Moment Factory: a one-mile trail through the forest with light installations, projections and an original soundtrack, built around the idea of stars falling to earth. It’s not a Christmas show as such, but it’s one of the most striking things to do in Vancouver on a dark December evening.
Astra Lumina opened in Stanley Park on October 22, 2026, and tickets are on sale through December 31. Here’s what to expect, what it costs and how to plan your visit.

What Is Astra Lumina?
It’s the 25th of Moment Factory’s Lumina Enchanted Night Walks. The studio, which has worked with Billie Eilish, U2 and the Las Vegas Sphere, also made Vallea Lumina in Whistler. Fever says the series has welcomed more than two million visitors across the US. This is its first time in Stanley Park.
The trail runs through nine themed areas. Highlights the organizers point to include Falling Stars, where light seems to drop from 20 feet above you; the Astra Archway; a Celestial Trail of thousands of pixel lights overhead; and A Visit from the Stars, a video-mapped “digital aquarium” of ancient sea creatures. It’s self-guided, so you set your own pace.

Tickets and Prices
Tickets are timed and sold through the official site and Fever, from CA$27.20, with prices rising for popular dates and times (the booking page showed sessions at CA$41.90 when we checked). Group bookings are available. Fever lists the experience as for ages over 4, while the official site says all ages are welcome, so check the child policy when you book.
Hours
Because it needs darkness, entry times are in the evening. The Vancouver Sun reported that it runs Wednesday to Sunday, with entry times between 5:45 and 9:15 PM. The booking calendar is the place to confirm the days and sessions for your date.

Before You Go
- Sign the waiver in advance. Every guest has to complete a liability waiver before arriving and show proof at check-in.
- Arrive 15 minutes before your session.
- Dress for rain. It’s a one-mile outdoor walk over varied terrain, and it runs rain or shine.
- No flash photography. Photos are fine without it.
- Snacks, drinks and merchandise are sold on site.
Getting There
The site is at 690 Pipeline Road, the old Stanley Park Railway, about 10 minutes from downtown. Limited paid parking is on site. The official site suggests transit via the Stanley Park bus loop. Coming from the North Shore, it’s just off the Lions Gate Bridge causeway. The organizers describe Stanley Park as an accessible venue. Contact them with specific mobility questions, since the trail covers varied terrain.
What Visitors Have Said
The official Astra Lumina site shares press quotes and visitor reviews from the series’ earlier, US installations, with a 4.6 out of 5 guest rating. Reviewers there often mention that it works for both teenagers and grandparents and that the walk feels calm rather than crowded. These reviews are from other cities, so treat them as a guide to the format rather than to Vancouver specifically.

Make a Night of It
- If you’re here because you remember the Bright Nights Train, Bright Nights now runs at Noël Surrey in Cloverdale.
- For a big Christmas light show, the VanDusen Festival of Lights (from November 27) and Canyon Lights (from November 20) are both a short drive away.
- Downtown, the Vancouver Christmas Market and Gingerbread Lane are about 10 minutes away.
- Back in Stanley Park on December 12, the Big Elf Run starts at Lumberman’s Arch.
